3 Forms w/Sphere no.4: Arch II

My first sculpture was inspired by two shadows on a wall. It was the beginning of a lifelong exploration of the relationship between seemingly unrelated forms and the connectivity or manifestation of the space between them; the juxtaposition of opposing forces creating another form altogether. My primary medium here is Styrofoam. There is a freedom and an element of the unexpected in this medium. You never know what you will find when you split open a large piece of Styrofoam or what kind of texture will emerge when you slice through it with a hot knife. As evidenced here, I have also been experimenting with combining it with other mediums. In this case, Cherry Wood, Plaster, Marble, Burlap, adding color to what have previously been monochromatic works.
